Marco Rubio

After losing his home state of Florida to fellow republican competitor Donald Trump, Senator Marco Rubio made the announcement on Tuesday that he will no long be participating in the 2016 presidential race.

In a speech to his Miami supporters, Sen. Rubio said, “After tonight it is clear that while we are on the right side, we will not be on the winning side.

Rubio was once one of the most promising GOP nominees, according to political enthusiasts, but after Tuesday night’s disappointing loss, the senator joins the long list of presidential hopeful dropouts.

Just weeks before Rubio’s announcement, former candidates Gov. Chris Christie, Dr. Ben Carson and Former Gov. Jeb Bush all made similar announcements. Christie and Carson both went on to endorse Trump, but it is unclear if Rubio will do the same.

Admittedly to some, the Senator has had a tumultuous experience during the primaries, but many others did not see his resignation coming.

Rubio made it point to address during his speech that although it would have been easy to play on American’s anxiety and frustrations regarding the current state of the economy, migration and other issues, he decided to avoid those grievances.

“I chose a different route, an I’m proud of that,” Rubio stated. Adding, “In a year like this, that would have been the easiest way to win, but that is not what’s best for America.”

There is no word yet on what’s next for the politician.
