The wait may finally be over.
Frank Ocean‘s long-awaited album, Boys Don’t Cry, is set to be released on Friday, August 5, according to The New York Times. The news comes from a source who requested anonymity due to lack of sanction to discuss the album’s release.
The record will drop via an exclusive deal with Apple Music in conjunction with a new music video. A printed publication titled after the album will also be distributed at Apple stores.
There’s been no official confirmation from Def Jam.
On Monday, the internet was abuzz after a mysterious live stream video of work benches in a large room appeared on boysdontcry.co around 3:30 a.m. EST. Then, at 9:30 a.m. EST, a man could be seen entering the room, with drilling and string music audible in the background. The stream has since reverted to the original shot of the work benches.
Director Francisco Soriano took to Instagram to share in a now-deleted post that he was behind the art project. “Video art project I directed is now up and runnin,” he shared in the caption.
Soriano worked with Frank on his “Lost” video in 2013. The video was taken down in September 2015, but screenshots can be seen here.
Boys Don’t Cry will be the first time fans hear Frank since his cover of The Isley Brothers‘ “At Your Best (You Are Love)” and 2014’s loosie, “Memrise.” Frank also has writing credits on James Blake‘s recent album, The Colour in Anything, and appeared on Kanye West‘s The Life of Pablo.
