A 20-year-old football player at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill surrendered to police Tuesday, nearly seven months after a sophomore accused him of rape on campus, according to The New York Daily News:
Allen Artis, 20, appeared before a magistrate judge just after 9 a.m. Wednesday and was served with two misdemeanor warrants linked to the alleged rape of 19-year-old Delaney Robinson. The junior UNC linebacker was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, according to a release from the Orange County Sheriff’s office.
Artis was arrested after Robinson, with the help of her attorney, went to a magistrate court to take out two self-initiated warrants for misdemeanor assault on a female and misdemeanor sexual battery. Under North Carolina law, residents can take out warrants for misdemeanors without law enforcement.
The arrest comes a day after Robinson spoke out against her university on Tuesday, detailing six-months of failed efforts to get Artis removed from campus and arrested after she reported the Feb. 14 alleged attack.
If guilty, he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. But some Twitter users are already questioning what his punishment would be in comparison to the convicted Stanford rapist, who served only half of his six-month sentence.
Sound off in comments.
