AfroPunk Atlanta 2016

Following a Jay Z cosign at Made In America and an electric performance at Tidal X: 1015Sir The Baptist drops compelling visuals for his single, “What We Got.”

The video, featuring Grammy-winning producer/songwriter Donald Lawrence,  is an uplifting PSA to African-American communities.

From the press release:

“Just as every major community has a self-sustaining Chinatown, Sir believes that African-American neighborhoods too can work toward creating their own self-sustaining communities. This message of hope and harmony is reflected in the video, lyrical theme and artwork for ‘What We Got.’ Ultimately, ‘What We Got,’ is really about taking pride and ownership for one’s own community.”

Sir reinforces this ethos in a brief message to the president toward the end of the video.

“For centuries we’ve wanted to be included,” he says. “We’ve protested to be included. But Mr. President, I have no desire to be included. I wanna build the first Black reservation and teach Black economics, you know what I mean? To hip-hop. This one’s for hip-hop.”

Sir’s debut album, PK: PREACHER’S KID, arrives later this fall.
