The Carolina Panthers signed Taylor Moton to a 5-year, $71.25 million contract announced on Thursday night. A deal that keeps the right tackle in Charlotte until at least 2025.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the four-year extension is worth a guaranteed $43 million after the Panthers previously gave Moton a franchise tag. Both sides agreed to the long-term deal before the league’s 4 p.m. deadline yesterday.
The Panthers took Moton in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft (64th overall). The 6-foot-5, 330-pound former Western Michigan product will make roughly $18 million per year, which puts him as the NFL’s second-highest paid for his position. He started every game over the past three seasons for Carolina.
Moton was also the “only tackle in the NFL with more than 450 pass protection snaps to not allow a single QB hit in 2020,” according to NFL.com. His new deal gave Christian McCaffrey a reason to celebrate and now the team is secure on the right side of the offensive line for years to come.
