Tiffany Haddish is unapologetic about many things when it comes to the fashion and beauty world: re-wearing her dresses, re-wearing Beyoncé’s custom suits (come on, you know you were jealous), and as of late, killing it with her red carpet looks. The Golden Globe Awards officially kicks off award season and where we get to see celebs rocking beautiful gowns, taking fashion risks, and even (gasp!) some fashion misses. The beauty moments will be plentiful, with makeup and hair inspiration to last us a season (or more).

For the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards, Tiffany Haddish served us a ruched pink gown that stood out on the red carpet. I love that Galia Lahava designer placed this silhouette with this color.

To further add to the sex appeal, it was all about the hair. Bobs have been trending whether in fun colors or your natural hair color, like Haddish displayed on the red carpet. This hairstyle shows off her face, which always has a myriad of expressions. We caught up with celebrity hairstylist, Ray Christopher, who gave us the details on Tiffany Haddish’s slicked back, teased bob and how you can get the look. He exclusively told Hello Beautiful, “This look was totally inspired by a past style worn by Charlize Theron a few years ago. I loved the chicness of the style and had a vision to create one by adding my own personal flare.

While millions of eyes were on Haddish and she was wearing a designer frock, her hair didn’t cost more than $21.00 to achieve (well, minus Christopher’s expert hands, of course). Nevertheless, using these products that you can get at your local WalMart or online for a hands free shopping experience, it’s nice to know that you can DIY this look.

START WITH CLEAN HAIR

Suave Professionals For Natural Hair

You are going to want to start with clean hair for this look. For an affordable option (and what Tiffany used to get Golden Globe glam!), try Suave Professionals for Natural hair Sulfate-Free Shampoo ($5.51, walmart.com) and follow up with the Suave Professionals for Natural Hair Moisturizing Curl Conditioner ($4.99, walmart.com). Now, this collection is one that really did their research on African American hair types and textures. They researched over 5000 women and have an ongoing study regarding what the women need for their hair as well as how the Suave products react to the hair.

SECTION THE HAIR TO MAKE IT MORE MANAGEABLE

Since you are going to be blow drying your hair, you are going to want to section it to make it more manageable and allow for a quicker and easier dry. Ray Christopher sectioned Haddish’s hair into four parts, but if you have thicker hair or Type 4C hair, don’t be afraid to turn four parts into six or eight parts. This is probably the most important part of the process and one you need the most patience to achieve. Christopher used the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer ($399.99, bedbathandbeyond.com) with the Dyson Y-attachment, coupled with the Suave Professional Natural Hair Cream Detangler Spray ($4.99, walmart.com) to “properly and gently comb through and blow the hair until there is an achieved dryness necessary to move to the next step in styling.” While the detangler is affordable, we are aware that the Dyson Hair Dryer is an investment, if it’s too much for your pockets at the moment, try our suggestion from our Last Minute Holiday Gift Guide, the Bombay Hair Blow Dryer ($100.00, bombayhair.com), costs half the price (less than half the price, it’s currently on sale for $60.00 and you get free shipping when you use the code JAN40), comes with the Y-attachment and a diffuser. Yes, please! Also, don’t forget to use a heat protectant on your hair, beauties, especially if you are not used to wearing your curls straight. One of my personal favorites on the market if your hair needs something a little heavier is Sachajuan Styling Cream ( $16.50, allbeauty.com); however, I find that the tried and true Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray works well on all hair types and textures.

FLAT IRON HAIR

Use the Heat Protectant before you blow dry your hair, the process will seal the product into your hair cuticles and prepare it for the flat iron process. Ray Christopher used a 1″ flat iron, my personal suggestion is a Sedu Pro 1″ Styling Flat Iron ($140.00, amazon.com). This has an automatic off button, which is a necessity for someone like me, who can be a little sleepy minded early in the morning. It also has ionic technology which allows moisture to stay locked in your tresses. Christopher suggests lifting the hair at the root to provide more volume. He also shared the importance of a haircut in a look like this, “a simple cut can help to create the layers necessary to proceed with simple curls using the flat iron.”

FINISHING TOUCH

A finishing spray or touch is always necessary to add some shine and life to the hair. To complete this glamorous look, apply Suave Professionals for Natural Hair Define & Shine Gel Serum ($4.99, walmart.com). If you are worried about your hair reverting or prefer to spritz than apply product via your hand then try Creme of Nature Gloss & Shine Mist ($7.69, target.com). This is also a great product to fight against humidity.
