People in the Muslim community are under attack nationwide from the mosque shooting in Canada to the burning of a Texas mosque (eerily reminiscent of Jim Crow terror practices) and President Donald Trump’s ban on Muslims.

On Wednesday, you can show your support for Muslim by wearing a hijab, or head scarf, on World Hijab Day. It’s just one small way to show support for our Muslim sisters. Locally, non-Muslim women are coming together in other way to support Muslim women.

The Muslim Women of the Carolinas drew a larger than expect crowd at a Muslim Connection Get-Together social at Amelie’s Bakery on Saturday. There are even yard signs that read “We Support Our Muslim Sisters & Brothers.”

Wednesday’s events include a noon rally at Romare Bearden Park to show support for Muslim women who wear a hijab and those who don’t, the Charlotte Observer reported. Then at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Muslim American Society will host a debriefing at 4301 Shamrock Drive, for those who experienced the day wearing a hijab to share their experiences.

Here’s a tutorial on how to wear a hijab.
