Charlotte has a large brewery scene but it’s not diverse. Now Charlotte could be getting its only Black-owned brewery.

Two and a half years ago Charlotte’s only Black-owned brewery closed. But now the owner of the brewery is back. Clarence Boston is bringing his Georgia-based Hippin’ Hops brand to the Queen City this summer.

Boston talked with QCity Metro and said the brewery will open at in NoDa on North Davidson Street.

The brewery will offer a variety of craft beers and specialty burgers.

He broke the news on Facebook: “Here we GROW again,” he wrote.

Craft brewing is a huge industry in North Carolina but not a lot of black culture can be found within.

Boston also is co-owner of Firehouse Bar & Lounge, which is around the corner from Bank of America Stadium.
