Fonda Bryant is a true advocate of mental health and wellness awareness and is dedicated to educating anyone in her path! Fonda speaks passionately about mental health issues from first-hand experience and is not ashamed to share her personal struggle with depression over 23 years ago after a suicide attempt; her life was saved and changed. She tells her story in a way that is motivational and inspiring. She has spearheaded numerous mental health events in the Charlotte community including a partnership with the Charlotte Checkers and Charlotte Knights for a Mental Health Awarenss night, two Harley Davidson locations for Stomp Out the Stigma Bike Ride and her baby, “Sanity Not Vanity.” This event was founded by Fonda to bring awareness of the benefits physical fitness has on mental wellness.
When it comes to mental health and wellness, she is a big proponent of CIT (Crisis Intervention Training)for Charlotte Police Officers and all officers. This training is for officers that encounter people in the community living with mental health and addiction issues. Fonda gives numerous speeches about putting a face on this disease and is a frequent guest speaker on several radi and television stations. She is a local volunteer with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Charlotte and sits on the state board of NAMI-NC. Fonda has also several published articles on Mental Health issues with NAMI and The Charlotte Observer’s Mom section. Fonda says to everyone…..”Having a mental condition is no different than a physical one!”
