The new-generation device was implanted into a 39-year-old man by a surgical team led by Dr. Jacob Schroder and Dr. Carmelo Milano on Wednesday. “We had a thousand new cases a day reported yesterday and today," Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen said Thursday. "That’s more than three times the number of cases we were seeing just two weeks ago." She went on to say the agency believes the spike of cases is due to the Fourth of July holiday. A majority of those as the Delta variant, first discovered in India.

Eric Parker, 62, and his wife Tangela Parker, 50, had been on the run from authorities after they were wanted in connection to the murder of Phelifia Marlow, who was shot and killed at TCS Designs in Hickory on January 13. The U.S. Marshals office announced they arrested the fugitives on Tuesday following a series of leads connected to Phoenix, Ariz. in recent weeks.
